Enjoy breakfast with a retro twist

Tefal has teamed up with British design and innovation leaders Seymourpowell to create the Retra Breakfast set*. Taking cues from 1950s Italy, this chic high-gloss cream and matt mokka kettle and toaster set boasts clean lines, subtle curves and gleaming chrome accents. The retro aesthetic cleverly combines with modern-day functionality to bring a touch of 'new nostalgia' to any style of kitchen. The Tefal Retra toaster has four extra-wide slots with self-centring racks that are ideal for toasting four thick rounds of perfectly golden toast, as well as bagels, crumpets and teacakes. The slots are forward-facing, too, so you can keep an eye on what's toasting. Two independent toasting chambers let you toast two or four slices at once. Each chamber has a seven-level browning control for toast to your taste, plus three handy automatic functions. Use 'reheat' to warm toast that you let go cold in the morning rush, 'stop' to pop up your toast at any time and 'defrost' to thaw bread – great when you forget to take your loaf out of the freezer. If you like a toasted muffin, you'll love the high-lift lever which helps you lift out smaller items without burning your fingers. Two slide-out crumb trays – one on each side – will catch any crumbs, while integrated cord storage helps keep your worktop tidy.

  • Form and function: Packed with clever features, this chic retro toaster will make breakfast time easier and look great while it's at it.
  • Versatile: Four forward-facing, extra-wide slots let you toast bread of any size and keep a close eye on progress, while automatic centring ensures they're evenly browned.
  • Tailored toasting: This Tefal toaster has two independent chambers each with its own seven-level browning dial and three automatic functions – 'reheat', 'stop' and 'defrost' – for custom results.
  • Safe removal: The handy high-lift lever helps you remove smaller items, such as crumpets, safely – no more burnt fingers!
  • Convenient: Two slide-out crumb trays make it easy to remove crumbs and keep your Tefal toaster clean, while integrated cord storage keeps your worktop clutter free.

Frequent questions
The defrost button allows you to defrost your bread and automatically allows extra cooking time for the toast to cook.
A Reheat function on a toaster automatically reduces the toasting time to approximately 30 seconds so that cooled toast can be brought back to temperature, without burning the toast.

On a flat, stable, heat-resistant work surface away from water splashes and other sources of heat. Ensure there is enough space around it, away from any flammable substance such as curtains or under shelving and never use under a kitchen wall cupboard. Remember never to leave the toaster unattended.
Almost all types of bread available in stores. You should be aware that dry bread toasts faster than fresh bread. Frozen bread toasts more slowly. With the adjustable thermostat, you can adapt the toasting level to suit your taste. If a slice of bread gets stuck in the appliance, unplug it and leave it to cool down. You can then remove the slice without any risk of getting burned.
The differences in the humidity levels between the various types of bread may cause the time and toasting level to vary. Slightly dry bread should be toasted at a very low position. Very fresh or wholemeal bread should be toasted at a slightly higher position. Bread with an uneven surface, such as English bread rolls, may need a higher toasting position.
Yes for bread containing cereal. No for bread containing dried fruit, in fact toasting it will give the bread a bad taste and may transform the fruit into embers, which could catch fire or lead to damage of the toaster

Before cleaning, maintaining or storing it, unplug the toaster and leave it to cool down. To clean the outside of the toaster and the power cord, use a soft cloth or a slightly damp sponge and detergent, then dry it all over. To clean the crumb tray, remove it and wipe with a damp cloth. Do not put it in the dishwasher. To maintain the toaster, never use harsh detergents, metal utensils or abrasive scouring pads. And never touch the heating element.
The lever will only stay down when your toaster is switched on at the mains socket outlet. If there is still a problem, unplug the toaster and turn it upside down over a sink and gently shake to remove any large crumbs that may be blocking the mechanism. If the problem still persists, take your toaster to an approved service centre.
One slice of bread in a two-slot toaster causes uneven heating.
